Neighbors in the Know – What is this Project?

Help shape a new community environmental project that will:

    • Build trustworthy, person-to-person conversations about the environment;
    • Share clear, accurate information on local issues and elections;
    • Encourage greater participation in both community programs and local voting.

How it works:

  • Friendly neighborhood “environmental ambassadors” will check in with their neighbors a few times a year;
  • They will share reliable updates on local environmental issues and ballot initiatives;
  • They will share reliable information on how elected officials are voting on the environment;
  • They will notify neighbors about events and opportunities from local environmental organizations.

The volunteer commitment:

About four hours per month after training. Each volunteer will take on a small number of homes in their neighborhood, visiting them 4 times a year to update them on environmental issues. This way it is sustainable and neighborly—not overwhelming. Volunteers and organizations can research and verify information before it gets shared in the neighborhood. We would like organizations to either share their volunteer lists or share our verified materials with their volunteers.

Why it matters:

This project is nonpartisan and focused only on environmental issues. By connecting year-round—not just during elections—we can build long-term trust and help our communities stay informed.
